Roger Costa started in the tool and dye business in 1953. After seeing an opportunity, he started his own business in 1970, which focused on building custom tooling (plastic injection molds) for the medical-electrical automotive and household items industry.
In the mid 1970's Roger became interested in fly fishing and joined United Fly Tyers, in Boston Massachusetts. After realizing that the current fly tying vises offered in the market could not withstand constant use, he started developing his own vise. Roger first designed and built a fixed head vise with an offset jaw, then another design which would pivot to any angle and rotate. These two production based designs were manufactured for a period of 12 to 14 years.
After the late 1980's Roger only made vises for personal use, not production. In the year 2000, Roger decided to produce the current vise using premium materials. The vise is now produced with all stainless steel or brass finished to a high quality. Roger machines all of the vise parts on CNC equipment, including his custom designed jaw.
